Giant’s Causeway Petition

July 8, 2012 by

A recent forum post revealed the National Trust was featuring Creationist material at the Giant’s Causeway to “promote the debate”.

Let’s be clear, there is no debate. The science is done, the evidence is in. Creationism is not correct!

As a result a change.org petition was created calling for the NT to remove this material.

Update 16/11/2012: The petition is now closed, but you can see the original wording here.

Why oh why did you do it National Trust???? The last thing we need is the damn creationists crawling out of the pseudo-science woodwork again!! What business does the National Trust have plopping religious propaganda stalls at geological landmarks, it’s absurd! Stop wasting and misusing public money, I don’t remember a vote on this so take the damn thing down, it has already been disproved so to bring it up again is just flogging an already well and truly flogged corpse of a horse.

Indeed Virtus, this gives a legitimacy to creationism that it doesn’t deserve. The NT should not be in the business of promoting, however obliquely, the nonsense that is creationism.

I shall not sit by and watch nonsensical garbage being taught to children. Science is about facts. Religion should stay out if it.
The National Trust has just proven how stupid it is this time.

People are wondering why young children are losing their interest in science and mathematics. The mental disease known as religion is the root cause.

Putting the work of great minds next to this rubbish is extremely insulting! Something that The National Trust should be ashamed of. We need to put myths aside, this is the 21st century; not medieval times.

    The main comments…

““There is clearly no scientific debate about the age of the earth or how the Causeway stones were formed.

“The National Trust does not endorse or promote any other view.

“Our exhibits, literature and audio guides for visits to the Causeway stones and this renowned World Heritage Site all reflect this.

“To ensure that no further misunderstanding or misrepresentation of this exhibit can occur, we have decided to review the interpretive materials in this section.”

I take this as a win!

What exactly do they mean by : “To ensure that no further misunderstanding or misrepresentation of this exhibit can occur, we have decided to review the interpretive materials in this section.”

The exhibit should be completely removed. We do not need to know about alternate views. The only thing we need to know is the truth.

Creationism is pseudoscience, lies wrapped up and packaged as science. There is no alternative theory to darwinian evolutionary fact, Darwin collected so much evidence throughout his life and if anyone was ever in doubt, genetics ultimately proved that Darwin was right. We share 95% of our genes with chimpanzees, we can trace our evolutionary history right back to single cell organisms. Darwin was a genius.

An old topic,I know.but are you good people aware of the funders of the refurbishment of the new Causeway Centre ? None other than Marty Maguinness [devout rc MP] and Peter Robinson [Ian Paisleys sidekick] MP and 1st minister off NI assembly.Am afraid , creationist post was central to the funding deal ! Again the religionist/politicians in this country, have more authorities etc in their pocket, than one coud imagine. “Gods Mafia” as they are better known !

well the whole place is a rip off because they charge you to park they charge you to go to the shop to buy a bar of chocolate and trick people into thinking they have to pay to see the causeway stones by kettling them into the shop entrance – given those sleights of hand what matter to them that they fudge facts and history – The National Trust never has been trustworthy. I rented a property off them and they said they couldn’t do any repairs because the house was just built in the wrong place – when i left after 15 years they made it into a palace of a holiday let.
