The UK’s first branch of ‘Recovering from Religion’ begins in London.

Atheism UK is pleased to support and help publicize a new ‘Recovering from Religion‘ group that has recently formed in London.

Recovering from Religion was founded in the USA by Dr Darrel Ray, one of Atheism UK’s distinguished supporters. Recovering from Religion is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing multi-dimensional support and encouragement to individuals leaving their religious affiliations through the establishment, development, training, and educational support of local groups nationwide.

The recently formed London chapter is facilitated by Valerie Levey and Ronnie Dakin, and can be found on Facebook:

Here’s a little of what Valerie and Ronnie say about the group:

“We aim to support people on their journey out of dogmatic religions in a safe, friendly environment. Recovery from Religion is a confidential, inclusive and open-minded environment whereby attendees give and receive non-judgmental support. Anyone from any religious background or affiliation is welcome – whether that be liberal or literalist (fundamental). The group is not about conforming to set ideas or beliefs, but is a safe place for people to explore their own journey away from harmful religion.

The group is facilitated by Valerie Levey and Ronnie Dakin. We both have a background in fundamental Christianity and understand the personal challenges that leaving such a rigid belief system presents. We are both members of Release and Reclaim, an online support group run by Dr Marlene Winell. During our journey out of fundamentalism we have both been on a journey of learning and discovery about our own and others experiences. We welcome the opportunity to share this journey with others. A place to be, a place to explore and a place to encourage each other. Come and join us!”

Atheism UK wishes this new group every success and we request that our members, supporters and visitors help publicize it. Many thanks.

Fantastic news, although never having been religious it’s not a service I need, but as ever I’ll help spread the word!
