A Request for help from CEMB
on: December 14, 2014, 18:31

Hi All,

Over at AAI we had the following request from our friends over at the Council of Ex-Muslims of Bitian:

Right now I am looking for help for Imad Iddine Habib who is here in London. He started the Council of Ex-Muslims of Morocco – the first public atheist organisation in a country where Islam is the state religion, using his own name and facing many threats as a result. He was also active in the movement there to eat in public during Ramadan...

He needs a place to stay and financial support for the three months he is here. He was finally given a visa to speak at our conference in October but it was given after the conference was over. He is here anyway to raise the matter of apostasy in Morocco and will be speaking at an event we are organising on ex-Muslims in the January/February sometime. Maybe AAI will be willing to co-sponsor that event but also would you be able to provide him with financial help. We are trying to find a place for him right now but we will need to pay for his rent and his spending money as he came with only 50£ of which he has only £20 left. Our organisation is £10000 in debt after the conference so we have no money to give him and must raise it all.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Can anyone help?

It's a worthwhile cause but, speaking as someone who is too skint to even pay the dues here, much as I would like to, I'm not much help. Also, living in the Highlands isn't much use - can't even help with accommodation. CEMB are a very worthwhile organisation - they do a lot of real campaigning, and don't indulge in the trivia and internet drama that certain other atheist groups seem to rely on for 'clicks'.
They don't get the attention and support they deserve - anyway, posting this to keep this topic visible in the forums. Hopefully someone with some dosh will turn up to help.
