Iran - not getting better
on: November 21, 2017, 21:39

Despite an apparent slowdown in state executions in Iran, the oppression of non-believers and gays isn't getting better. They may be killing fewer drug-driven criminals though...

Under Iranian law, many nonviolent crimes, such as “insulting the Prophet,” apostasy, same-sex relations, adultery, and drug-related offences, are punishable by death. In December 2015, members of Parliament introduced a bill to eliminate the death penalty for drug offences that do not involve violence. However, the initiative, while welcomed by several authorities, has not moved forward. Source:

Amnesty International estimates that 5,000 gays and lesbians have been executed there since the 1979 Iranian revolution. (Guardian newspaper).
