England and Wales- tarrying marrying

Humanist Weddings have been legal in Scotland since 2005. They are now legal in Northern Ireland and Jersey. In England, Wales and Eire they have to be accompanied by a registrar to register the weddings, I believe, as I think only religionist clerics and official registrars are allowed to marry people legally in those countries.

Humanist weddings are possible in all countries, of course.

For some reason, in Eire, humanist weddings have to be held indoors. It is important to consider the accreditation of wedding celebrants.

Anyone can set themselves up as a humanist celebrant, so if there's any doubt about someone's abilities it might be best to use a celebrant accredited with a well-established humanist group, such as HumanistsUK or Humanist Society Scotland.
