Pastoral support
on: September 29, 2018, 21:09

Most charity and social work has become secular and is done by state-funded professionals, as it should be, but I have often thought that there are still gaps. My local volunteer groups have nobody to serve those feeling lonely in the under 60 and over 18 group. There are 'friends' and 'visitors' for the elderly, the disabled and the young, but not if you just feel lost, alone or have difficulty coping. It is nice to see groups filling the gaps...

but it would be ideal to get to the stage where it is done through the volunteers organised by community and location, rather than religion or charity groups...
