Facelessness and Fake News
on: February 15, 2019, 09:27

Facelessness. I think there should be a word for the actions of people who say and do things online, or on the telephone, or through snailmail that they would never say or do face-to-face with someone. It is a form of cowardice. I met a woman who said she would often shout or be rude to someone on the telephone, but would never do so in person. She didn't seem to see how shameful that is. A criminal has sent a threatening e-mail to an MP to make her in fear of her life. As long as the perpetrator feels certain nobody could discover their identity they think that achieves something other than a crime.

People talk of the truth pledge..
(google: the truth pledge)
People should also accept the 'No Facelessness Pledge' which promises never to do or say anything by remote methods that one wouldn't say or do face-to-face with someone. I think this should be an international debate like that of 'fake news'.
