Atheism UK was invited to be in the audience. Chris Street Atheism UK President attended the 8th January 2017 show. The topic “Would today’s ‘wise men’ believe in God?” was discussed for 20 minutes.
Is religion irrelevant today? Atheism UK was invited by Bath University to debate religious societies. The motion was: “This house believes that religion has become irrelevant in today’s society.”
Should faith schools be able to select up to 100% of pupils based on their faith? The Catholic Education Service (CES) has proposed that the current 50% cap be scrapped.
In September, Theresa May announced a consultative Department for Education (DfE) Green Paper – “Schools that work for everyone”. For Faith Schools, the DfE say they “intend to deliver more good school places, while meeting strengthened safeguards on inclusivity.”

“It seems to me that the Green Paper gives some spurious arguments for changing the 50% cap on selection in faith schools. If you are concerned about social integration and inclusive children’s education, I urge you to complete the Department for Education feedback form before 12th December.”
In the early hours of November 10th 2016, many of us atheists woke up to the dawn of at least another four years of religious rule in the world’s most major powerhouse. But for secular non-believers, Donald Trump is not the real danger. The real threat to the atheist democracy as intended by the American founding fathers, and as enshrined in the US Constitution, comes from the well-known evangelical heavyweight now known as Vice President-elect Mike Pence.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Richard Green on 23rd October 2016, aged 62.
In 2009 Richard co-founded Atheism UK. He remained a council member becoming Vice President in August 2016.

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) held its 72nd Session on 17 May 2016 – 03 Jun 2016. In July 2016, the CRC reported on Freedom of thought, conscience and religion in the UK. The report recommended that the Government repeal collective worship.
